Starting A Club
- 01. Pick Pick an area you want to learn more about. Maybe that's DeFI, maybe that's Bitcoin. Picking a particular area to start can help ease the learning curve and make cryptocurrency a more approachable subject.
- 02. Find Find a few like-minded friends. Ideally you should join up with people you've known for years, and not people you've recently met on Telegram or a meetup. Cryptocurrencies are a fascinating innovation and change in how digital transactions work, but they've also attracted attention from people who don't have your best interests at heart. Friends and family are the best place to start.
- 03. Communicate Canada is a great country but it isn't free. Speak with an accountant about how cryptocurrencies are taxed so you can be sure to stay on the right side of tax rules. An accountant can also help you understand whether your expenses related to the club are deductible.
Joining A Club
- 01. Start Small Putting in $10 is a great way to learn and if you make a mistake you'll be out less than a movie ticket.Don't assume you'll make any money and don't get carried away if you see initial success. Approach cryptocurrencies as a topic to be slowly eased into rather than jumping in with both feet.
- 02. Trade Make sure your club is buying and selling with reputable players. Some exchanges/dealers are located in offshore countries to make it easier to get away with things that are illegal or to avoid Canadian regulation. There are many great choices available in Canada, but even within Canada, be wary of any service that seems too good to be true and encourage your club to do its homework on the vendors that you're using.
- 03. Asset Safety Learn how to handle your own cryptocurrencies by getting your own "private keys". Cryptocurrenciescan be held by other people, and it might be a safer option to start if you're not sure what you're doing, but cryptocurrencies are designed to be controlled by regular people and you can do it too!
Running A Blockchain Node
- 01. Start Node Blockchain networks are regular computers like yours, but wired together into decentralized networks of thousands of nodes. You can start your own node and become a part of the network.
- 02. Network Experience Cryptocurrencies are about more than prices going up and down. Encourage your club to run a Bitcoin or Ethereum node to get hands-on experience and learn the fundamentals of how cryptocurrencies work.
Success!
- Regulation Compliance If your crypto club is growing or doing well, consider speaking with a lawyer and/or other professionals to make sure you're on the right side of local rules. Cryptocurrencies are relatively newand some laws are in a state of flux, so even if you checked when you started, always be on the lookout for new rules that might affect your club. Joining local groups can help you to stay informed about changes without the expense of a lawyer.
